about
Maria Sur is a Ukrainian-born pop artist based in Sweden. Born on 31 December 2004 in Zaporizhzhia, she has become one of the more recognisable young voices in Swedish pop since arriving in the country, competing twice in Melodifestivalen and releasing music through Warner Music Sweden.
early life
Maria Sur grew up in Zaporizhzhia, in south-eastern Ukraine. She left the country with her mother following the Russian invasion in 2022, and the two settled in Sweden. Earlier that same year she had appeared on the twelfth season of Holos Krainy, the Ukrainian edition of The Voice.
breakthrough in sweden
Shortly after arriving, she sang Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor” at a charity gala for Ukraine held at the Avicii Arena in Stockholm — a performance that introduced her to a Swedish audience. She toured with Diggiloo during the summer of 2023.
melodifestivalen
Maria Sur has competed twice in Melodifestivalen, Sweden’s national song contest. In 2023 she entered with “Never Give Up”, placing ninth in the final; the single reached number 17 on the Swedish chart. She returned in 2024 with “When I’m Gone”, finishing seventh in the final with 72 points, and that single climbed higher still, peaking at number 12.
music
Signed to Warner Music Sweden, Maria Sur has been releasing music since 2022. Her latest single, Better Man, arrived on 10 July, following Pretty Boy on 29 May. Both are available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. She shares new music and announcements with her followers on Instagram and TikTok, where she posts as @mariasurofficial.
humanitarian work
Maria Sur is an ambassador for Sverige för UNHCR, the Swedish national partner of the UN Refugee Agency, supporting its work with people who have been forced to flee their homes — a cause with obvious personal resonance.
